Just what are the benefits to pesticide?
In a recent blog post, the Director of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, Brian Leahy, shared about the benefits of pesticides. In our health conscious era of living, it’s hard to imagine benefits of pesticides, but there are many.
Leahy pointed to the complex process of safely administering pesticides in order to deliver food, water, and even health care to our communities. To gain a clear picture of the benefits of pesticides, imagine these three areas (water, food, and health care) without using any pesticides. Pests of all sizes from ants to rats would have free rein. What is important, is to consistently seek safe ways to treat pests, just like your neighbors here at EcoShield Pest Control Services. Our focus is green and clean, and we want to protect you and your family from harsh unnecessary chemicals.
Imagine a world without pest control.
Take the exploration of using pesticides even further. Imagine not protecting yourself against the deadly spread of the West Nile Virus, where cases get worse and worse with each new mosquito season. Or malaria or dengue fever, two other diseases carried by mosquitoes. Imagine not protecting our communities against disease carrying rats, who spread many diseases that cause serious health problems.
Leahy explained that if we truly want to become less dependent on pesticides, we will need to restrict our landscaping, crops and household products. This isn’t something that is currently being explored. Especially in California, where Leahy oversees pesticide regulation, pesticides are some of the most regulated items in the California commerce system.
Crop Life America which supports crop protection, reminds us that without pesticides the U.S. food production would swiftly decline. Many of our favorite fruits and vegetables could not be produced. Ultimately the price of food would increase. The effects wouldn’t just be on the dinner table, as they would also affect the clothes you wear. Without pesticides to protect our cotton crops, farmers their entire livelihood and us our clothing source, to pest disease.
Our pest would suffer too, because without proper pest control, ticks and fleas pose a serious threat to pets. American dog ticks, which are larger than deer ticks, can spread Rock Mountain Spotted Fever and cause tick paralysis.
The best defense is educating yourself and knowing your pest control service. At EcoShield, we are happy to answer any questions you may have and offer a free consultation.
